The Sequence Ontology began as part of the Gene Ontology Consortium and
ontology development was funded via a grant from the NIH/NHGRI, HG02273
(Blake). Software development for SO was also funded by a grant from
the NIH, RO1HG004341-01 (Eilbeck). The National Library of medicine has supported PhD students and postdocs working biomedical ontology projects via the T15 training grant. Terminology development in the realm of sequence variation is supported via R01HG008628 to Eilbeck.
